Renovations 2005-2007

In 2005, we underwent our first major ground-up renovation/modernization. This multi-million dollar project supported by the Government of Alberta, the St. Albert Protestant School board, and Lorne Akins saw upgrading of almost every aspect of our building. The addition of a new music room off the back of the school gave us the ability to make a district-first fitness room.

The new computer lab and library brought a much-needed re-vitalization to the core of the school (as well as a much more efficient layout to both rooms).

All classrooms received massive upgrades to their audiovisual capabilities through the installation of a digital projector, THX-certified 2.1 sound system, CATV into each classroom, a DVD/VHS deck, a Teacher computer, and a 7.6-foot wide projection screen (equivalent to a 115 inch television).

Finally, one of the most significant upgrades was the addition of a massive skylight in the middle of the school that, through cutting a large hole in the second level floor, created a very spacious atrium (the gathering choice for many students, and the site for many school functions, like our LA Idol singing competition). One of the unique features of our atrium is a giant 60" Plasma television with 5.0 surround sound.

This renovation would not have been a success without the cooperation of our District Office and staff (roughly a third of which we took over as the LA2 Campus), our construction crew, and especially our awesome student body and staff who endured the constant noise, dust, and disruptions that always go along with an in-place renovation.

In fall 2007, we completed the final phase of our renovation--the Industrial Arts lab. This phase saw the IA lab gain a much needed re-organization (such as separation of the dusty/noisy/messy modules of IA from the clean/quiet modules), as well as a long overdue influx of technology in the form of a 12-station mini computer lab.
