Information for Parents

Communication

At Lorne Akins we attempt to keep an open line of communication with the parents. The Lorne Akins Student Agenda serves as an excellent vehicle for communicating student achievement. Students are expected to record all of their marks for each subject in the Agenda so that parents can have an “up-to-the-minute” snapshot of student achievement at any time. We ask that parents monitor regular student use of the agenda.

The L.A. Times is our monthly publication. It is sent home free with students or can be mailed out at a cost of $5.00 per year.

Lorne Akins School Council

Parents are invited out to discuss various agenda items as a part of our Lorne Akins School Council held on the second tuesday of each month from October to April at 7:30 p.m. in the library. Watch our online calendar for dates/changes.

LA Gator Society

Fundraising ventures and community projects such as school beautification, building a storage garage, and creating recreational facilities have been undertaken by this group of staff members, parents, and other community members. The Gator Society projects also support computer technology improvements. Can you help? Call 460-3728.

Parent Volunteers

Parents have volunteered to assist teachers and students in a variety of ways. Their efforts are much appreciated by everyone concerned. If you are interested please feel free to contact the school at 460-3728. Parents and students are encouraged to play an even greater role in the care, operation and maintenance of our school.

Family School Liaison Program

This program was established by Community Services and the two St. Albert School Districts to act as a resource, and provide a liaison between St. Albert families and the school system. This will assist families whose children may be experiencing difficulties while in school or at home. The primary focus of this community program is to provide individual and family support through a variety of means such as counselling, referrals and coordinating case work with school personnel and social agencies.

For further information contact your child’s school counsellor or the Family School Liaison Worker, Sharon Mills, at 459-1699.
