The Athletics program at Lorne Akins is one of the most diverse and successful programs in our school district. Lorne Akins has won numerous championships over the years extending from local to international competition. Students are encouraged to participate in other non-academic physical activities throughout the year as well. If you seek a more physical challenge, our Fit for Life and Outdoor Pursuit Options In addition, we have a wide variety of competitive sports teams (many of them multi-award winners):
During the lunch hour, students are invited to participate in various intramural events organized by our Fit For Life Leadership students. To kick off the year, we also hold a school-wide run we like to call "Joe's Dough Run". Students are challenged to beat our former Superintendent, Joe Demko (one of our former Principals) around a course that winds its way through our very large "back yard." When our school yard becomes a Winter Wonderland, students can be found at Rabbit Hill with our Ski Club. They also have an opportunity to enjoy the mountin slopes for a day at Marmot. Towards the end of the year, students (especially Fit For Life students) are given the opportunity to take a challenging, yet picturesque 3 day bike trip in the mountains of Jasper, Alberta. |
